Community Youth Scholarship Program

The Center for Dance Education Youth Scholarship Program makes the school and that art of ballet accessible to students and families throughout the Spartanburg Community. The scholarship focuses on students ages 5-8, a pivotal stage to begin ballet training. The annual program works to expose children to dance at an early age and provide a full scholarship to students with talent and drive.

When is the audition?
Spring or Summer 2018. Watch our page for details!

Who can audition? 
Children 5-8. No previous dance experience is necessary. 

Students should have:

  • Talent for training in ballet and other dance styles

  • Ability to get to and from classes

  • Desire, commitment, and discipline to study dance

Eligibility:
Dancers must be eligible for Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program. Parents may be required to provide 2017 tax return to show proof of income eligibility.

What should my child wear to audition?
Ballet Clothing is preferred
Girls: leotard, tights and ballet slippers
Boys: T shirt, black shorts, ballet slippers
If you do not have ballet clothing, it’s OK! Please wear leggings, shorts, socks and T shirt.

Ballet Spartanburg Receives 2018
Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award

Ballet Spartanburg has received the 2018 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award. This award is given each year by the South Carolina Arts Commission to recognize exemplary artists and arts organizations for the State of South Carolina. “Each recipient of these Verner Awards is an outstanding ambassador for our state and contributes greatly not just to the arts community, but the overall quality of life.  As the Arts Commission nears completion of its 50th anniversary celebration, we are honored to recognize organizations and individuals who live out the service, commitment and passion that helped the arts here thrive throughout the last half century."
