Programs for schools

Dance demonstrations are held in conjunction with our public performances at over two dozen Spartanburg County schools throughout the year. In 2022-2023, Ballet Spartanburg served over 10,000 students in our community. School shows for 2023-2024 include The Sleeping Beauty, STEAM: Earth, Wind and Fire, Peter and the Wolf and Martha Graham’s Suite from Appalachian Spring.

The Sleeping Beauty will be presented at Chapman Cultural Center October 19 and 20. Seating is limited. After you reserve your seats, a study guide will be sent to you in order to prepare your students for the performance. Reserve your seats NOW!!!

Ballet Spartanburg's STEAM: Earth, Wind and Fire is the MUSE Machine program offered to all Muse schools for the 2023-2024 school year. Performances happen at YOUR school and a variety of dates are available. This STEM-based program infuses the Arts through dance for students in grades 3-8. This outreach program is available to any MUSE school during the school year. Pre and post activities, as well as SC Dance and STEM standards, are embedded in each lesson and are available through a study guide provided to each school registering for the performances. Teachers who use the study guide will see that students exhibit measurable and positive results through pre and/or post dance activities that integrate the science concepts. Students will demonstrate a broad understanding of the four core concepts that make up the Profile of the SC Graduate: creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. RESERVE YOUR TIME AND DATE NOW!!!

Peter & the Wolf is offered free of charge to all Spartanburg County school children from kindergarten through fourth grade. The performance takes place at Chapman Cultural Center March 19 & 20. It is the perfect vehicle to introduce young audiences to the fine arts. Study guides and grade-level appropriate activities that connect to the classroom curriculum are provided to each school registering to attend the performance. Susu and George Dean Johnson, Jr. graciously fund this educational program each year. We are appreciative and grateful to the Johnsons for their continued efforts to increase engagement of the arts through education. RESERVE YOUR SEATS NOW for this popular children’s program!!!
