Demonstrations are held in conjunction with our public performances at over two dozen Spartanburg County schools throughout the year. In 2019-2020, Ballet Spartanburg served over 10, 000 students in over 42 locations.
Ballet Spartanburg's "Building STEAM Through Dance" is the Muse Machine program offered to all schools for the 2021-2022 school year. This STEM-based program infuses the Arts through dance for students in grades 3-8 to assist in developing student's critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration. This outreach program is available to any school during the school year. Pre and post activities as well as SC Dance and STEM standards are embedded in each lesson. Students will exhibit measurable and postiive results through pre and post engaging dance activities. Students will demonstrate a broad understanding of the four core concepts: creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. Peter & the Wolf is offered free of charge to all Spartanburg County school children from kindergarten through fifth grade. Study guides and grade-level appropriate activities that connect to the classroom curriculum are provided. This educational programming is gifted each year by Susu and George Dean Johnson, Jr. We are appreciative and grateful to The Johnsons for their continued efforts to increase enganement of the arts throught education.

Ballet Spartanburg's Artistic Director, Carlos Agudelo, was awarded the South Carolina Governor's Award from the South Carolina Arts Commission on May 23, 2023, at the Chapman Cultural Center. The award was presented by Mr. David Platt, Executive Director of the South Carolina Arts Commission. "We recognize the unparalleled energy, enthusiasm, devotion and love for dance that Carlos has gifted to our community out of his passion for all to experience the arts for the past 32 years. We are overjoyed that Carlos has been recognized by the South Carolina Arts Commission, " Teresa S. Berline, Executive Director. "The South Carolina Arts Commission is an extraordinary organization in our state which promotes and advocates opportunities in the arts which values equality, access, diversity and inclusion. Ballet Spartanburg is honored by the support of the South Carolina Arts Commission and the recognition of Carlos Agudelo."
