ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Director’s Choice closes the Ballet Spartanburg season with a carefully curated program that highlights neoclassical and classical ballet at its core, supported by select contemporary choreographic voices. As the season finale, it offers a culminating artistic statement that reflects the Company’s range, precision, and stylistic versatility.

This program brings together works that emphasize musical clarity, choreographic structure, and the enduring language of ballet, creating a final performance that is both refined and celebratory.

THE WORK

The program features works by choreographer Durante Verzola alongside two works by Julia Antinozzi, each contributing distinct choreographic perspectives shaped by musicality, form, and contemporary influence.

Anchoring the program is George Balanchine’s Valse-Fantaisie, a rare opportunity to experience this neoclassical masterwork on a South Carolina stage. Defined by speed, precision, and musical brilliance, it serves as the structural and artistic foundation of the program.

Together, these works form a program rooted in neoclassical ballet vocabulary, with contemporary voices offering contrast and expansion rather than dominance.

ARTISTRY & PERFORMANCE

The Ballet Spartanburg Company performs with technical refinement, musical sensitivity, and stylistic versatility, moving between classical and neoclassical repertoire with clarity and control. The dancers’ training is fully realized in works that emphasize speed, coordination, line, and musical responsiveness.

This program highlights the Company’s ability to sustain both classical tradition and neoclassical precision within a single cohesive performance.

EXPERIENCE

Director’s Choice is designed as a culminating performance that closes the season with contrast, clarity, and artistic focus. Each work contributes to a program that feels both celebratory and essential, offering audiences a final opportunity to experience the full range of the Company’s artistic identity.

This production includes both matinee and evening performances, allowing audiences flexibility in how they experience the season finale.

Each production is part of a larger artistic arc defining a new era for Ballet Spartanburg.
