ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Ballet Spartanburg presents Cinderella, returning to the stage for the first time in five seasons as the opening production of the 2026–2027 Season. Choreographed by Artistic Director Lona Gomez, this full-length ballet blends classical technique with vivid storytelling to create an experience that is both engaging and accessible for all audiences.

Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s sweeping score, Cinderella invites families, first-time ballet goers, and returning audiences alike into a world of imagination, transformation, and timeless charm.

 

THE STORY

Cinderella’s story begins in a home where she is overlooked and underestimated, her kindness and resilience quietly shaping her world. With the arrival of the Fairy Godmother, everything begins to shift, leading her to an evening at the royal ball where possibility feels within reach.

As the clock strikes midnight, the magic begins to fade, setting in motion a search that carries the story forward. Through each scene, the ballet unfolds with clarity and warmth, capturing both the wonder and humanity at the heart of this timeless tale.

 

ARTISTRY & PERFORMANCE

Under the direction of Lona Gomez, Cinderella highlights both classical ballet technique and character-driven performance. Dancers bring each role to life with individuality and expression, from the elegance of the royal court to the humor and energy of the Stepsisters.

The production features Ballet Spartanburg’s professional company alongside students from the Center for Dance Education, creating a dynamic stage filled with both principal roles and large ensemble scenes.

 

STRUCTURE & SCALE

As a full-length ballet, Cinderella unfolds across multiple acts, moving from intimate moments at home to the grandeur of the royal palace.

Large ensemble scenes, including the ballroom, create a sense of scale and celebration, while smaller character moments bring focus and depth to the storytelling. The contrast between these worlds allows the ballet to move fluidly between humor, elegance, and emotion.
