About Ballet Spartanburg
Founded in 1966, with its official school established in 1967, Ballet Spartanburg has grown into a respected cultural institution in the Upstate of South Carolina. The professional company was launched in the 2013–2014 season and has since developed a strong reputation throughout the Carolinas as a full professional ballet company rooted in artistic excellence and community engagement.
Based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Ballet Spartanburg is a community-anchored organization headed in a bold new artistic direction with a focus on classical and neo-classical ballet, while continuing to evolve its artistic voice.
Repertoire and Artistic Vision
Ballet Spartanburg’s repertoire is grounded in the classical canon and expanded through neo-classical and contemporary works. Past seasons have included full-length and repertory productions such as The Nutcracker, Giselle, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Future seasons will continue to balance classical tradition with innovation, featuring world premieres, contemporary and neo-classical works, and repertory by influential choreographers, reflecting the company’s commitment to both heritage and artistic growth.
Company Contract Information
Ballet Spartanburg offers a 28 week paid contract with compensation based on rank. Positions are full professional company appointments. Additional opportunities may be available for teaching and community engagement programming.
Audition Requirements
Dancers must demonstrate strong classical technique and professional training.
Male dancers must meet a minimum height requirement of 5'10".

Professional Company and Apprentice Program
Applicants may be considered for either the Professional Company or the Apprentice Program, depending on experience and artistic fit. These are distinct programs with separate contracts and expectations.

The award was presented by Mr. David Platt, Executive Director of the South Carolina Arts Commission.
