SOFIA NIEBUHR was born in Savannah, Georgia and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she received much of her ballet training. She began dancing under the direction of her mother, Veronica Moretti Niebuhr, before joining Charlotte Ballet Academy and its pre-professional program under the direction of Laszlo Berdo, Kati Hanlon Mayo and Patricia McBride.
During her training, Sofia performed featured roles in Alejandro Cerrudo’s Lickety Split, George Balanchine’s Divertimento No. 15 and Ib Andersen’s Swan Lake. Her repertoire also includes roles in Rubies, Walpurgisnacht and Union Jack. She furthered her training through summer programs at Chautauqua Institution, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Complexions Contemporary Ballet and Charlotte Ballet.
Following her training, Sofia danced with Lexington Ballet under the direction of Eric Trope, where she performed the roles of Dewdrop and the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker.
Sofia joined Ballet Spartanburg as a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2025.
Most recently, Sofia performed Dewdrop in The Nutcracker. Her repertoire with Ballet Spartanburg also includes performances in Giselle, Coppélia and Ballet, Bourbon, and Blues.
