JULIANA UTZINGER was raised in Connecticut, where she began her ballet training at The Hartt School before continuing her studies at Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory under the direction of Victoria Mazzarelli.
In 2021, Juliana joined The Sarasota Ballet’s Trainee Program under the direction of Christopher Hird and Deirdre Miles Burger, where she performed select company repertoire including works by Sir Frederick Ashton and Johan Kobborg’s La Sylphide. She later continued her training in the Professional Division at Nashville Ballet, where she expanded her classical and contemporary repertoire.
Most recently, Juliana spent two seasons with Ballet Arizona’s Studio Company, performing alongside the main company in productions including Ib Andersen’s The Nutcracker and Swan Lake and Daniela Cardim’s The Sleeping Beauty. Her repertoire also includes August Bournonville’s A Folk Tale and works by Nayon Iovino.
Juliana joins Ballet Spartanburg as an Apprentice for the 2026–2027 season.
Ballet Spartanburg's Artistic Director, Carlos Agudelo, was awarded the South Carolina Governor's Award from the South Carolina Arts Commission on May 23, 2023, at the Chapman Cultural Center. The award was presented by Mr. David Platt, Executive Director of the South Carolina Arts Commission. "We recognize the unparalleled energy, enthusiasm, devotion and love for dance that Carlos has gifted to our community out of his passion for all to experience the arts for the past 32 years. We are overjoyed that Carlos has been recognized by the South Carolina Arts Commission, " Teresa S. Berline, Executive Director. "The South Carolina Arts Commission is an extraordinary organization in our state which promotes and advocates opportunities in the arts which values equality, access, diversity and inclusion.
