ABIGAIL FORBES is a native of Northern Michigan and has been dancing since she was three years old. She is a dedicated classical ballet dancer with a strong foundation in the Vagonova method. Abigail has trained and competed across the United States and Europe with Company Dance Traverse, earning many top platinum awards in diverse styles. Among those accolades, she placed several times at YAGP, including 3rd in the semi-finals in the Contemporary Senior Solo Division, top 12 for Classical, and 1st in semi-finals ensemble, earning her scholarships along the way. She has also attended many summer intensives throughout her career at Sarasota Ballet, Ballet Rhode Island and notably with Catherine Lewellen at Elite Classical Coaching in Texas. Her pre-professional program training began at Oklahoma City Ballet under the direction of Rachel Nye. She has also trained at Fort Wayne Ballet and Grand Rapids Ballet, where she performed a diverse range of repertoire expanding her proficiency in both classical and contemporary ballets. Her repertoire includes roles in Val Caniparoli’s The Nutcracker, Ryan Jolicoeur-Nye’s The Sleeping Beauty, James Sofranko’s Juliet’s Bridesmaids in Romeo and Juliet, Septime Weber’s Peter Pan, and Marius Petipa’s Paquita, as well as numerous original choreographic works. Abigail looks forward to joining Ballet Spartanburg and sharing with the audiences the joy of dance!
Carlos Agudelo, 2023 SC Governor's Award for an Individual
Ballet Spartanburg's Artistic Director, Carlos Agudelo, was awarded the South Carolina Governor's Award from the South Carolina Arts Commission on May 23, 2023, at the Chapman Cultural Center. The award was presented by Mr. David Platt, Executive Director of the South Carolina Arts Commission. "We recognize the unparalleled energy, enthusiasm, devotion and love for dance that Carlos has gifted to our community out of his passion for all to experience the arts for the past 32 years. We are overjoyed that Carlos has been recognized by the South Carolina Arts Commission, " Teresa S. Berline, Executive Director. "The South Carolina Arts Commission is an extraordinary organization in our state which promotes and advocates opportunities in the arts which values equality, access, diversity and inclusion. Ballet Spartanburg is honored by the support of the South Carolina Arts Commission and the recognition of Carlos Agudelo."
