The Nutcracker

Student Auditions 

Student auditions for The Nutcracker will take place on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Auditions will be held at the Ballet Spartanburg studios located in The Chapman Cultural Center. 200 East St. John Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. 

Students must be 8 years or older to audition. 

Please arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled audition time to fill out paperwork and to be measured. All dancers must bring a photo of themselves in "1st position." 

Audition Attire: Girls - leotard, tights, ballet slippers, hair in a bun (no skirts). If 14 or above please bring pointe shoes. Boys - black tights or shorts, white t-shirt, white or black dance slippers. 

Audition Times: 

  • Ages 8-10: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
  • Ages 11-13: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Ages 14 and above: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Student selected to perform in The Nutcracker must be available the following dates: 

  • Saturday, December 4th: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM 
  • December 6th-12th (Production Week) 
  • December 10 
  • December 11
  • December 12

Most Nutcracker rehearsals will begin October 29th until the final performance on December 12th, and take place on Monday, Friday or Saturday, depending on the role. Students are not allowed to miss the first rehearsal.  If a student misses the first rehearsal, the student will be replaced. 

*Students will also be considered for student roles in The Wizard of Oz during the above audition times. Students selected to perform in The Wizard of Oz will be notified separately. All casting is under the discretion of Ballet Spartanburg's Artistic Director and artistic staff.

The picture above reflects opportunity, joy, happiness, dance and above all, who we are as an organization: education, outreach and performance.

This year is Ballet Spartanburg's 55th season in your community. Throughout this pandemic, we have remained committed to offering to our community the services of our mission, education, outreach and performance, to the best of our ability in keeping with the guidelines of the CDC and DHEC. We have all seen a dramatic change in our world, how we live, and how we are able to experience the arts. We are resilient and prepared to face a tough and challenging season. Your support is needed now more than ever. 

Our community's words of encouragement, notes, letters, emails, donations and gifts continue to inspire us each day. Contributions allow us to continue creating new choreography, engage in new outreach programs such as our new partnership with the Leap of Dance Academy in Nigeria, Africa, and our commitment to offering the highest quality dance education in our Center for Dance Education.
